If you’re just starting out, the roulette wheel can seem a little daunting, and you might feel like you don’t know where to start! But fear not, we have just the guide for you to prepare you for the roulette wheel so you can concentrate on enjoying the experience of the game. The game goes back a long way, around 600 years, in fact, originating in Paris and as you may well know if you’re reading this guide, even the online game at King Casino remains extremely popular!

Get to know the Wheel

There are two types of wheel m the American and the French, the American roulette wheel features an extra ‘00’ and so has 37 numbers in total, whereas the French roulette wheel only has a total of 36, with a single ‘0’. This is important as the different wheels offer different outcomes, with the American wheel having 5.26% on the house edge and the French having a lower 2.7%. An expert tip is to choose to play the French wheel as the house has less of an advantage.

Placing your Bets

Once the dealer starts the game you will be asked to place your bets, where you can choose where to place your chips on the table. Did you know that you can put your chips on top of other players? This is a common mistake that beginners make is they simply do not realise that you’re able to do this! You can continue to place your chips on the table right up until it is announced “no more bets”, even when the wheel is in motion.

What are the Types of Bets?

There are a wide variety of bets, which is what keeps the game interesting for players. Here are some of the types of bets in roulette.

Outside bets can be red or black, odd or even or low or high, with low bets being number 1-18 and high bets being 19-36. There are also columns, where you place your bets on the 12 numbers on either one of the three columns on the table. Finally, there are dozens, where you place a bet on any one of the three on the table which are either 25-36, 13-14 or 1-12.

Inside Bets: these are bets that you place on single numbers or certain combinations of numbers.

The bets you can place which are inside bets are:

  • Straight-up bets (single number)

  • Corner bet (four numbers next to one another)
  • Line (bets on six numbers next to one another simultaneously)
